2011 Census - Make a Submission - get ISL there!
HI all,
New information about Census 2011.
The government does a Census every few years, to find out how many people in Ireland, ages, jobs, income, religion, disability, etc.
Last Census was in 2006 but there was no question about Deaf ISL users.
The only question was about deaf AND blind, so the government doesn’t know exactly how many Deaf people there are in the country. This makes it more difficult to plan services for Deaf people.
AND, the 2006 Census did not mention ISL at all.
AND – the 2006 Census was NOT translated to ISL so Deaf people had less access!!
Now, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) is asking for ideas about the 2011 Census. You can make a submission to the government with ideas about new questions for the next Census.
Please send submissions by email, FAX or post to:

I think it would be a great idea for people to let the CSO know our ideas to mention ISL in 2011 Census, as well as have it translated into ISL DVD for Deaf people.

Fair play Cormac! Will definitely be sending an email! The past 2 census's (or is it censuses? really must look the plural of census up...anyways..) I have had to fill it in for my parents as they do not understand the paper!! Mind if I put it on the irishdeafyouth website?
